Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called for lasting peace following the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He stressed the need to end attacks on civilians and infrastructure across the region.
The ceasefire, announced after weeks of escalating conflict, is expected to last two weeks. It aims to reduce tensions and open the door for diplomatic talks.
In his statement, Masrour Barzani welcomed the pause in fighting. However, he warned that a temporary truce is not enough. He emphasized that long-term stability requires serious commitment from all sides. The prime minister highlighted the human cost of the conflict. He said civilians have suffered the most from ongoing violence. Therefore, he called for immediate steps to protect lives and essential infrastructure.
In addition, Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s support for de-escalation efforts. He said the region is ready to assist any initiative aimed at achieving peace. This includes diplomatic coordination and regional cooperation. Meanwhile, international leaders have also urged restraint. Many see the ceasefire as a chance to prevent wider war and restore stability.
The situation remains fragile. Reports indicate that tensions and limited hostilities continue despite the agreement. For this reason, Barzani stressed the importance of turning the ceasefire into a permanent solution. He called on all parties to engage in dialogue and avoid further escalation.
His message reflects growing concern across the region. While the ceasefire offers hope, lasting peace will depend on sustained diplomatic efforts and respect for international law.
