The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) parliamentary bloc expressed its full support on Sunday for Iraq’s extensive anti-corruption campaign. The bloc also welcomed the legal measures initiated by Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi in coordination with the judiciary and other key state institutions.
In an official statement, the bloc praised federal efforts to combat systemic corruption. It specifically commended the recent arrests of numerous individuals facing serious corruption charges. The bloc also urged authorities to expand the campaign beyond Baghdad and extend anti-corruption efforts to all provinces and cities across the country.
“The KDP bloc fully welcomes and supports these legal measures,” the official statement said. Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi is coordinating these actions directly with the judiciary to ensure full accountability. Lawmakers stressed the importance of close cooperation between the executive and judicial branches to guarantee the success of the campaign while upholding the rule of law.
The bloc also declared its readiness to cooperate with both federal and local authorities to help uncover the truth, strengthen legal frameworks, and ensure accountability. “Iraqi citizens deserve transparent, accountable, and corruption-free governance,” the statement added. Furthermore, the bloc called for legal action against corrupt individuals without discrimination or political favoritism.
Significant developments unfolded earlier on Sunday within Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone. Federal authorities carried out coordinated security raids and arrested 47 parliamentarians and senior officials. Security forces also conducted related operations in several other provinces. The Federal Integrity Commission confirmed that it had obtained judicial warrants before carrying out the high-profile arrests. The commission further pledged that all investigations would proceed transparently and in accordance with legal procedures.
