Authorities in Erbil have announced plans to build a new neighborhood specifically designed for the Christian community. The project aims to provide modern housing and essential services for Christian families who have long faced challenges finding suitable homes within the city.
According to local officials, the new area will include residential units, schools, health centers, and places of worship to ensure a comfortable and inclusive environment. The plan also includes green spaces and public facilities that promote community interaction and cultural harmony.
The Erbil administration emphasized that the project reflects the Kurdistan Region’s long-standing tradition of coexistence and respect among different religions and ethnicities. Officials also highlighted that the new neighborhood will help encourage displaced Christian families to return and settle again in their homeland.
Construction is expected to begin soon, following the completion of design and land preparation. The project forms part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s broader urban development strategy, which seeks to expand housing, improve infrastructure, and support religious diversity across the region.
