Amedspor’s New President Reaffirms Commitment to Kurdish Identity

Amedspor’s newly elected president, Nahît Eren, pledged to uphold the club’s Kurdish identity and continue using Kurdish script on team jerseys. He also set an ambitious goal for the club — to reach and remain in Turkey’s Super League.

Speaking at a joint press conference with new head coach Sinan Kaloglu, Eren emphasized Amedspor’s mission to combine sporting excellence with cultural pride. “Our goal is clear — to finish first in Trendyol League 1 and move up to the Super League,” he said.

Eren confirmed reports that penalties over Kurdish script were annulled but noted that no official confirmation had yet come from the Turkish Football Federation. “We will continue using Kurdish writing. Amedspor stands for identity and dignity,” he asserted.

The club, representing Diyarbakir (Amed), has long faced scrutiny for its Kurdish symbolism. Amedspor was fined in 2014 after adopting its Kurdish name but later gained recognition as Amed Sportif Faaliyetler Kulübü.

Eren also condemned a racist assault on an Amedspor supporter in Sakarya, vowing legal action and declaring, “We will never remain silent against attacks on our culture.”

Coach Kaloglu said unity and belief would drive success, calling his return to Diyarbakir “a personal and professional honor.”
