Barzani and al-Hakim Unite to Boost Political Coordination Before Iraq Elections

President Nechirvan Barzani and Ammar al-Hakim held a key meeting in Erbil to discuss political cooperation ahead of Iraq’s November 2025 parliamentary elections. The talks aimed to strengthen coordination between major political forces and address ongoing challenges facing the country.

According to the Kurdistan Presidency, discussions focused on Iraq’s political and security developments, Erbil–Baghdad relations, and the importance of dialogue to resolve disputes between the two governments.

Both leaders stressed that political cooperation and institutional coordination are vital to maintaining Iraq’s stability and ensuring fair and transparent elections. They agreed that continued engagement between parties can help ease tensions and strengthen national unity.

Barzani and al-Hakim, who lead the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the National Wisdom Movement respectively, also discussed the need for joint efforts to promote understanding among Iraq’s diverse political forces. They emphasized that collaboration would be crucial in navigating the regional challenges, particularly the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared vision of both leaders to protect Iraq’s political balance, support peaceful dialogue, and promote cooperation across the country.
