Barzani and Iranian Governor Seek Stronger Trade Ties

President Nechirvan Barzani met with Reza Rahmani, governor of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, to boost trade and improve cross-border travel between Erbil and Iran. The meeting underlined efforts to deepen economic cooperation.

Governor Rahmani confirmed Iran’s strong interest in expanding ties with the Kurdistan Region. He emphasized the importance of trade and cross-border coordination to benefit both sides. The talks also focused on easing restrictions and improving customs processes at shared borders.

President Barzani highlighted the historic and strategic relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Iran. He called for broader cooperation in areas like infrastructure, trade logistics, and border development.

The governor of Erbil also joined the meeting to discuss local plans for supporting trade. All parties agreed on taking practical steps to make border crossings smoother and faster. They discussed reducing bureaucratic delays and improving facilities for travelers and truck shipments.

The meeting reflects growing momentum for regional economic partnerships. Both sides aim to turn shared geography into economic strength.

Officials plan to hold more joint discussions to turn the ideas into action and boost long-term cooperation between Erbil and Iranian provinces.
