Barzani and UN Envoy Condemn Drone Strikes in Kurdistan

President Nechirvan Barzani met with UN Representative Mohamed Al-Hassan to address the growing tensions following recent drone attacks in Kurdistan. Their meeting focused on political stability, financial rights, and the urgent need for security in the Kurdistan Region.

Barzani emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad. He urged the central government to fulfill its financial commitments to the Kurdistan Region without further delay. According to the Kurdistan Region Presidency, he also stressed that ending drone attacks is key to achieving national peace.

During the meeting, both sides condemned the wave of strikes targeting vital infrastructure. Barzani called on all parties to support efforts to prevent further escalations. He also highlighted that continued aggression could threaten regional stability and deepen the crisis between Erbil and Baghdad.

UN envoy Al-Hassan echoed Barzani’s concerns. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for peaceful talks and long-term cooperation between the two governments. The UN remains committed to helping ease tensions and avoid further damage to civilian and economic life in the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting concluded with a shared call for urgent action to protect civilians and restore political balance.
