Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has voiced strong support for the upcoming Arab League summit in Baghdad.
He described it as a “historic diplomatic milestone” that elevates Iraq’s position in the Middle East.
On Wednesday, Barzani shared his statement via social media platform X, welcoming Arab leaders to Baghdad.
“This summit reflects Iraq’s return to its rightful regional role,” he said confidently.
The Arab League summit in Baghdad will take place on Saturday, with all 27 member states set to attend.
Leaders will discuss regional political, economic, and security issues during the high-level meeting.
Barzani praised Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani for his leadership in advancing Arab unity and regional stability.
He noted that Baghdad is now viewed as a hub for diplomacy and constructive dialogue.
In recent years, Iraq has stepped into a regional mediator role, hosting sensitive diplomatic talks.
This includes negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, facilitated alongside Oman.
These talks led to the China-brokered March 2023 agreement, which restored ties between Riyadh and Tehran.
Barzani credited Baghdad’s peacemaking platform as a foundation for that diplomatic breakthrough.
Beyond that, Iraq has also offered mediation in the Yemen conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Its broader peace efforts have won praise from both regional players and global observers.
Barzani emphasized that the Arab League summit in Baghdad will strengthen Iraq’s foreign relations and internal unity.
He sees the event as a turning point in Iraq’s role on the world stage.
With growing cooperation and diplomatic influence, the Arab League summit in Baghdad signals Iraq’s revival as a stabilizing force.
Barzani’s endorsement highlights the Kurdistan Region’s full support for Iraq’s leadership in Arab affairs.
