Bekhal Resort Redevelopment Aims to Boost Tourism

Soran’s local administration has launched a massive redevelopment plan for Bekhal Resort. The goal is clear: make Bekhal Resort a world-class tourism hub. This move highlights the government’s commitment to economic diversification through make Bekhal Resort a world-class tourism hub, a vision repeated throughout the planning documents and official statements.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is directly supervising this ambitious project. Officials have already begun taking practical steps to bring the masterplan to life. The plan focuses on modernizing infrastructure while preserving the area’s natural beauty. Moreover, the government is prioritizing the interests of current business owners.

Halgurd Sheikh Najib, Supervisor of the Soran Independent Administration, emphasized the project’s dual purpose. First, the redevelopment will enhance tourism. Second, it will support local businesses. “We believe this plan serves all residents of Soran,” Najib said during a recent announcement.

Officials have created mechanisms to ensure that local vendors remain financially secure during the transition. Restaurant owners, shopkeepers, and stall operators will not face eviction or loss. Instead, the project encourages them to reinvest and participate in the resort’s new design. One key goal remains central: make Bekhal Resort a world-class tourism hub.

To achieve this, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) initiated consultations with local stakeholders. Business owners have been briefed on every step. A joint meeting is set to formalize cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This approach ensures transparency and shared responsibility.

One long-standing business owner expressed full support. “We have worked here for generations,” he explained. “If they want to reduce our venue sizes, we’re ready. We trust this vision and want to sign formal contracts with the government.”

The redevelopment will cover three districts. The design includes updated infrastructure, eco-friendly architecture, and recreational facilities. This initiative aligns with the KRG’s 9th cabinet strategy. It seeks to shift the economy from oil dependence toward sustainable tourism.

The new Bekhal Resort will attract both domestic visitors and tourists from neighboring regions. Nestled in the mountains, the area features the iconic Bekhal waterfall and the scenic Gali Ali Bag canyon. These natural treasures are set to become the centerpiece of the tourism renaissance.

Importantly, the government repeats its core mission: make Bekhal Resort a world-class tourism hub. With this plan, officials aim to create jobs, boost revenue, and protect cultural heritage. The Soran Independent Administration, formed in 2021, continues to play a key role in shaping the region’s future through such bold initiatives.
