Coalition Forces Intercept Iranian Missiles and Drones Targeting U.S. Sites in Erbil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Missiles and drones intercepted over Erbil underscored a notable escalation in regional tensions as the Iran–Israel conflict widened into northern Iraq. Coalition defense forces successfully shot down a number of Iranian-launched missiles and explosive drones targeting the U.S. Consulate and Erbil International Airport. No casualties or material damage were reported, officials said.

The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate confirmed the intercepts took place in the afternoon over Erbil province. The international coalition’s air defense systems engaged incoming threats before they could reach their intended targets. Authorities described the action as a protective measure amid a broader wave of regional hostilities.

These aerial threats followed strikes launched by Israel and the United States on Iranian territory in response to earlier military actions. In reaction, Tehran and its allied armed groups reportedly launched drones and missiles across the region, including toward coalition and U.S. positions in Iraq.

Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw addressed the public following the event, emphasizing that essential supplies in the city remain stable. He assured residents that food reserves held in warehouses are sufficient for at least six months, and market operations are continuing normally. The governor warned against panic buying and pledged that authorities would take measures to prevent price manipulation or hoarding amid the heightened tensions.

The interception of missiles and drones over Erbil highlights the expanded footprint of the Iran–Israel confrontation. Military and diplomatic sources in the region continue to monitor the situation closely as security priorities shift to safeguard civilian areas and strategic assets.
