Deadly Wildfire Strikes Halabja Mountains

Halabja has been hit by a devastating wildfire that claimed two lives and destroyed large areas of land. Local officials reported that the fire spread quickly, engulfing three villages and causing serious damage.

Zanyar Omar, spokesperson for the Halabja Civil Defense, said teams have worked tirelessly to control the blaze. However, the fire remains active due to strong winds and dry conditions. Emergency crews continue to fight the flames while also evacuating residents from dangerous areas.

The scale of destruction has shocked communities across Halabja. Fields, orchards, and pastures have turned to ash, leaving many families without vital resources. Authorities have now declared a mourning period to honor the victims and show solidarity with affected families.

In addition, the disaster highlights the urgent need for stronger environmental protections. Local leaders stress that rising temperatures and prolonged droughts are fueling more frequent and intense wildfires. They call for preventive measures such as firebreaks, early warning systems, and improved equipment for firefighters.

As the situation unfolds, residents hope for swift containment and recovery. The wildfire serves as a painful reminder of the growing dangers climate change poses to the region’s natural and human life.
