Designer Lara Dizayî Weaves Kurdish Heritage into Prestigious Milan Fashion Week

Lara Dizayî, a renowned Kurdish designer, presented a stunning new collection. She showcased it at Milan Fashion Week. Furthermore, the event is one of the world’s most important fashion platforms. Her collection, titled “Milan Enchanted,” was for Spring/Summer 2026. It intentionally presented a Kurdish cultural fashion narrative to a global audience.

Dizayî explained her central goal in two special interviews. She aimed to illuminate Milan with Kurdish colors and stories. The collection resulted from nine months of continuous work. It featured thirty distinct designs. Moreover, each design told a unique story from Kurdish history and culture.

The show began with a powerful first piece. It was inspired by the ancient Erbil Citadel. Dizayî stated this was a very important choice. She called the citadel a symbol of love for all Kurds. Consequently, a model wore a majestic design reflecting the fortress. This strong opening set the tone for the entire Kurdish cultural fashion narrative.

Other designs explored different cultural themes. One piece celebrated Newroz. Dizayî described it as a dance between humanity and nature. Other designs paid tribute to Eastern Kurdistan. They also honored Queen Ishtar, Hapsa Khan Naqib, and Yezidi culture. The show concluded with another powerful design. It incorporated the colors of the Kurdish flag. This finale provoked a major reaction from the audience.

The audience included international media and guests from many countries. They came from the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Dubai. Dizayî noted they were deeply moved. Many were in tears of joy. They especially reacted when they saw the Kurdish flag. One of the collection’s most impactful designs was “Bêwejîn,” meaning “widow.” This piece paid respectful homage to Kurdish women. It specifically honored mothers who raised children alone after their husbands were martyred. Dizayî wanted to create a strong, respectful design for them. She said their sacrifice was beyond compare. This emotional depth defined the entire Kurdish cultural fashion narrative.

Milan Fashion Week is a top global fashion event. It stands alongside Paris, London, and New York. Dizayî’s official participation marks a significant step. It introduces Kurdish fashion to the world. It also delivers a cultural message through design. Her work successfully translated national heritage into a compelling artistic statement.
