Dust Storm Lowers Visibility Across Kurdistan Region

A thick wave of dust has swept into the Kurdistan Region, sharply reducing visibility. The storm, driven by winds from southwestern areas, began moving in from central and southern regions earlier today.

Fazil Ibrahim, head of the Kurdistan Region’s Earthquake and Meteorological Department, said visibility in some areas has dropped to less than four kilometers. In parts of the southern region, it may fall below two kilometers.

Meteorologist Mohammed Kamal explained that strong winds from southwestern areas are fueling the storm. He warned that these conditions will likely continue through Tuesday, making travel more dangerous.

The dust storm has created hazardous conditions for drivers and outdoor workers. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors whenever possible. They also recommend wearing masks to prevent respiratory problems caused by inhaling dust particles.

The storm’s impact is expected to be felt in both rural and urban areas, with major cities like Erbil already experiencing a dense haze. As the dust lingers, health officials remind people with asthma or other breathing issues to take extra precautions.
