Elham Ahmad Urges Global Kurdish Support for Kobani

Elham Ahmad, co-chair of the DAANES Foreign Relations Department, emphasized the critical role of global Kurdish solidarity in protecting Kobani. She warned that the city faces escalating military and humanitarian pressures.

Ahmad said that Kurdish unity across borders has become a “true line of defense” for Kobani. She noted that this solidarity has prevented further deterioration of security and civilian life in the city.

Conditions in Kobani remain dire. Civilians face food, medicine, and electricity shortages, while ongoing violence threatens homes and basic infrastructure. Ahmad stressed that immediate attention is necessary to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.

She also highlighted the efforts of Kurdish communities abroad. Protests, advocacy campaigns, and international lobbying have raised awareness of Kobani’s plight. Ahmad said these initiatives amplify the city’s voice and encourage governments to act responsibly.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue in Erbil and Europe. Kurdish representatives have held talks aimed at de-escalating tensions and ensuring safe access for humanitarian aid. Ahmad insisted that political dialogue, not military measures, offers the only sustainable solution.

Furthermore, she warned that neglect could worsen regional instability. She explained that attacks on Kobani risk undermining coexistence among different communities in northern Syria. She urged all parties to pursue responsible negotiation and cease hostile actions.

Ahmad described Kobani as a symbol of Kurdish resilience and identity. She said protecting the city carries significance beyond immediate security concerns. Therefore, global support and coordinated action remain essential to safeguard both civilians and regional stability.
