Erbil and Berlin Strengthen Ties Across Key Sectors

Erbil and Berlin are moving toward a stronger and more dynamic partnership. President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s full commitment to deepening ties with Germany in political, economic, and cultural areas.

During a meeting in Erbil, Barzani met with Christiane Hohmann, Germany’s ambassador, who is wrapping up her diplomatic mission. He thanked her for playing a vital role in advancing cooperation and boosting bilateral relations during her time in the region. Barzani also emphasized that the Kurdistan Region remains eager to enhance collaboration with Germany across all areas of shared interest.

In response, Ambassador Hohmann praised the Kurdish leadership for their support throughout her term. She also stressed that Germany views its relationship with the Kurdistan Region as a key priority. She noted Berlin’s desire to expand this cooperation further in the coming years.

The meeting also covered important regional topics. They discussed the latest developments in Erbil-Baghdad relations, domestic politics, and the ongoing situation in Syria and nearby countries.

This renewed pledge between Erbil and Berlin signals a shared vision for stability, mutual growth, and stronger regional ties moving forward.
