ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Authorities in Erbil have announced plans to expand green spaces across the city, including the development of new parks and the planting of 127,000 saplings.
Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw said the initiative aims to improve environmental conditions and enhance the city’s appearance. He noted that officials want to build on last year’s efforts and further increase vegetation coverage.
Moreover, Governor Omed Khoshnaw explained that the project will target different areas of the city. Authorities plan to plant trees along streets, in residential neighborhoods, and in public spaces.
He added that expanding green areas can help reduce pollution and improve air quality. In addition, more greenery can create a healthier and more attractive environment for residents. Officials also highlighted the importance of long-term planning. They said proper maintenance and irrigation systems will support the success of the project.
Furthermore, the plan includes developing new public parks. These spaces will provide recreational areas for families and contribute to urban development. Authorities emphasized that increasing vegetation remains a priority. They aim to create a more sustainable and livable city through these efforts.
Governor Omed Khoshnaw noted that similar projects last year delivered positive results. Therefore, officials expect this year’s initiative to further enhance green coverage across Erbil.
