Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw Urges Baghdad to Compensate Civilians After Drone and Missile Attacks

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw has called on the Iraqi federal government in Baghdad to compensate civilians affected by recent attacks across the province.

In a statement, Khoshnaw stressed that many residents suffered material losses due to repeated drone and missile strikes. He said the federal government must take responsibility and provide fair compensation.

Moreover, the governor directed local authorities to begin documenting all damages. He instructed officials to record losses dating back to February 28 to ensure accurate assessment. Khoshnaw emphasized the importance of transparency. He noted that proper documentation will help ensure that affected families receive appropriate support.

In addition, he highlighted the impact of the attacks on civilian life. He said damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure has placed pressure on many households. The governor reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting residents. He said efforts are underway to assist those affected while awaiting federal action.

Officials have already begun field assessments in impacted areas. Meanwhile, coordination continues between local institutions to gather data and verify claims. The call comes amid ongoing security challenges in the Kurdistan Region. Therefore, authorities have stressed the need for stronger cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad.

Omed Khoshnaw also urged the federal government to take preventive measures. He said protecting civilians must remain a top priority. The governor reiterated his appeal for swift action. He stressed that compensation, accountability, and coordination remain essential to addressing the consequences of recent attacks and supporting affected communities.
