Erbil Nears Completion of Key Kore-Shaqlawa-Qandil Road Project

Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw announced that the 90 billion dinar Kore-Shaqlawa-Qandil road and Mirawa-Mawaran tunnels project is in its final stage. This strategic 10-kilometer route, located on the historic Hamilton Road, plays a vital role in boosting commerce and tourism within Erbil province.

Governor Khoshnaw provided the update during a public statement on his official social media page. He confirmed that major construction works are nearly complete, and the paving process will begin soon. This marks a crucial transition from heavy engineering to the project’s final phase.

The project involves constructing a modern two-lane road, along with the Mirawa and Mawaran tunnels, which have now advanced significantly. Khoshnaw highlighted that the design also includes two major intersections, one built as an overpass and the other as an underpass, aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing road safety.

Moreover, the governor stressed the importance of this project for Erbil’s economy and tourism sector. The new road is expected to improve connectivity between key regions, facilitating the movement of goods and travelers. Local businesses and tourism operators will benefit from smoother access to important trade hubs and scenic destinations.

The ambitious project carries a significant budget allocation of 90 billion dinars, underlining its strategic value. As an essential part of the historic Hamilton Road, the upgrade enhances a vital transportation corridor that links several commercial centers.

Furthermore, the completion of the Kore-Shaqlawa-Qandil route will strengthen Erbil’s position as a growing hub for trade and tourism in the region. The improved road network will reduce travel times, increase safety standards, and provide more reliable access for residents, visitors, and commercial transporters.

Governor Khoshnaw emphasized that the final paving stage will begin shortly, setting the project on track for timely completion. Once finalized, this development is expected to become a cornerstone of Erbil’s modern infrastructure, driving economic growth and expanding tourism opportunities.
