Erbil Municipality has planted more than 500 new trees along the city’s 30-meter main street, aiming to expand urban greenery. Every day, teams continue planting and maintaining trees in streets, parks, and public areas across the city.
The municipality emphasized that the new planting contributes to increasing the city’s green cover and improving environmental quality. Teams work continuously to care for urban trees, ensuring proper irrigation, trimming, and protection from damage.
In addition to street planting, municipal crews focus on parks, gardens, and central squares. Workers also plant flowers and ornamental shrubs to enhance public spaces. The initiative combines daily maintenance with seasonal planting to maintain vibrant and healthy greenery.
The municipality clarified that all tree planting and care activities are carried out by specialized teams within the Parks and Public Spaces Directorate. These teams handle every step, including planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, and overall tree management.
Officials highlighted that expanding Erbil’s green areas improves air quality, provides shade, and creates healthier living environments for residents. The initiative also encourages community engagement, as citizens are invited to respect and protect the city’s urban vegetation.
The 500 new trees mark a significant step in Erbil’s ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability and environmental awareness. Officials plan to continue expanding urban greenery, combining strategic planting with regular maintenance across streets, parks, and public spaces.
