Erbil Projects Are Our Answer, Says PM Barzani

Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, witnessed the launch of a major new water supply project. During the event, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani stressed that service projects are our answer to critics of his government.

Standing at the inauguration site, Barzani introduced the first phase of the Erbil Emergency Rapid Water Supply Project. He framed the launch as not only a solution to a pressing crisis but as a symbol of his cabinet’s commitment to serve.

Barzani recalled the challenges faced in recent years, from climate change to population growth. These factors pushed Erbil into a water crisis. “Water became a serious concern. We had to act,” he said, pointing to the urgent need behind the project.

The Prime Minister revealed that an earlier company had failed to complete the project. That failure delayed progress for years. But with new leadership and local expertise, the project took shape quickly. “Less than a year ago, we laid the foundation. Today, it is functioning,” he noted.

He proudly highlighted that local workers, engineers, and materials made it possible. “This was completed in record time with a fully local effort,” Barzani added. It became a prime example of how service projects are our answer to those who doubt the government’s performance.

He also called on citizens to join the mission. “Please, do not waste water,” Barzani urged the people of Erbil. “No matter how much we provide, conservation is your duty.”

Beyond water, Barzani spotlighted another major program—the Runaki 24-hour electricity project. According to him, over two million people now benefit from uninterrupted electricity. “Eighty percent of users are paying less now,” he said.

He also dismissed rumors that the 24-hour power comes at the cost of other regions. “This project increases electricity for everyone. It does not take away from other areas,” he clarified. He expressed hope that constant power cuts and loud generators would soon be things of the past.

Barzani’s speech turned firm when addressing critics. “Some ask misleading questions about our internal revenue. We won’t answer those directly,” he said. “But let me say this—service projects are our answer.”

He went on to highlight efforts across other areas—roads, agriculture, digital systems, and policing. He claimed his ninth cabinet worked hard across all ministries to serve the people.

Finally, Barzani reassured the public that future plans would expand both water access and recycling. Treated water could be used for green areas, he said, easing demand on drinking water.

In Erbil, where basic needs matter most, Barzani wants results to speak louder than words. As he reminded citizens once again, service projects are our answer.
