Erbil will welcome the Women’s Minifootball World Cup on September 17, bringing international teams together for a week of competition. The International Minifootball Federation (IMF) confirmed the tournament and praised Erbil’s complete readiness and strong support from the Ministry of Sports.
A total of eleven national teams will compete, split into two groups following a draw ceremony held in Erbil. Group A includes Kurdistan, Lebanon, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Jordan, and Pakistan. Group B brings together Tunisia, Egypt, Uganda, Haiti, and Taiwan.
The IMF described Erbil as the “House of Peace” and expressed confidence in the city’s ability to deliver a successful global event. This will mark a historic moment for women’s sports in the region, as the capital prepares to host athletes and fans from across the world.
IMF head Muhammad al-Dosari explained that close cooperation with local authorities is underway to ensure smooth organisation. He also stressed that the goal is to provide the best possible experience for players and supporters alike.
The IMF operates as a non-profit body with 53 member states. It promotes 6×6 minifootball worldwide, supporting both women and men of different age groups. With this tournament, Erbil strengthens its position as a regional hub for sports and international cooperation.
