Erbil Water Supply Restored After Temporary Disruption

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Water distribution in Erbil has returned to normal following a temporary disruption caused by heavy rainfall, according to local officials.

Rabar Hussein, head of water distribution in Erbil, said the production and supply of water from the Ifraz stations and the Erbil emergency water project have resumed as usual. He confirmed that operations are now stable after recent interruptions.

In addition, He explained that the disruption was caused by heavy rains over the past few days. The rainfall increased turbidity levels in the Great Zab River, making the water too muddy for normal processing. As a result, distribution was temporarily halted to ensure water quality and safety.

Hussein said that water levels have now returned to acceptable conditions. Treatment processes have resumed, and water is once again being pumped to storage facilities across the city.

He added that all neighborhoods affected by the outage will receive water based on a scheduled distribution plan. Authorities expect full restoration of supply across Erbil by the end of the day.

Officials emphasized that the suspension was a precautionary measure. It was taken to prevent untreated or low-quality water from reaching households.

The Erbil water authority reassured residents that the situation is under control. They also noted that contingency plans are in place to handle similar issues in the future.

The disruption had left several areas without water in recent days. However, with operations now back to normal, residents are expected to see services fully restored.
