Halabja is gearing up to host its annual Pomegranate Festival, welcoming visitors from across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The three-day event will take place at Halabja’s central park, starting on October 30.
The festival will showcase a wide variety of pomegranates, along with locally produced honey, vinegar, and dried fruits. More than 500 local farmers will participate, offering their products directly to attendees.
“The preparations are ongoing,” said Hawraman Jalal, media officer for the Halabja tourism department. He noted that over 550 vendor spots have already been reserved, and about half of these will sell food.
Festival organizers have dedicated 250 booths for pomegranates, other seasonal fruits, dairy products, honey, and dried goods. All items are domestically produced, highlighting Halabja’s rich agricultural heritage, said Arsalan Abid, a member of the organizing committee. He added that additional booths will display local handicrafts and other domestic products.
Halabja is famous for producing some of the finest pomegranates in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, attracting tourists and traders alike. Last year, the festival drew more than 285,000 visitors, and organizers expect this year’s attendance to exceed 300,000 guests.
The event is not only a celebration of the region’s agriculture but also a boost for local businesses and tourism. With a combination of food, craft displays, and cultural activities, the festival promises a vibrant and family-friendly experience for all visitors.
