Helkat Jaffer Sets Guinness StairMaster Record

Helkat Jaffer, born in a refugee camp in Silopi, Northern Kurdistan, has set a Guinness World Record on a StairMaster. Over 24 hours, he completed more than 111,000 steps at GoodLife Fitness in Orléans, Canada. His achievement symbolizes resilience, heritage, and community spirit.

Jaffer moved to Canada with his family at six months old. Growing up in Ottawa, he balanced Canadian life with strong Kurdish roots. He credits his grandfather, Jaafar, for inspiring him by proudly wearing traditional Kurdish clothing. “I always felt connected to where I came from,” he said.

Jaffer’s record attempt followed a serious Achilles injury in April 2023. The injury nearly ended his athletic career. However, through determination, disciplined rehabilitation, and belief in movement, he turned the setback into a comeback. He now shares this journey in his upcoming book, The Power of Movement.

The StairMaster challenge also raised funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. Jaffer collected over $7,000 to support youth programs. “It was never just about climbing stairs,” he said. “It was about showing kids resilience and the value of hard work.”

Cheered on by family, friends, and community members, Jaffer emphasized that movement is medicine. He encouraged youth to see challenges as opportunities. His story blends athletic achievement with cultural pride, linking his Kurdish heritage to his Canadian life.

Looking forward, Jaffer plans to expand his influence through public speaking, mentorship, and athletic challenges. He aims to inspire communities worldwide while highlighting Kurdish identity. “Believe in yourself. Let challenges refine you,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of culture. Carrying Kurdish traditions and values has shaped his personal and professional life. Jaffer hopes his message encourages young Kurds to embrace heritage while pursuing global opportunities.

Through this record-breaking effort, Jaffer demonstrates that discipline, community, and cultural pride can lead to extraordinary results. From Silopi to Canada, he shows that resilience transcends borders.
