Iraq Gas Field Safe After Controlled Blast Near Khor Mor

A scheduled blast near the Khor Mor gas field on Sunday caused brief concern among residents and workers. The explosion occurred around 10:20 a.m. in the Qader Karam subdistrict, located in Chamchamal, within the al-Sulaymaniyah province.

Some initial reports suggested a possible drone strike. However, local officials quickly clarified the situation. Sadiq Mohammed, the district director, confirmed that the blast was part of a planned demining operation. He explained that the explosion had already been coordinated with Asayish security forces and the local administration.

The Khor Mor gas field plays a key role in the region’s energy supply. The facility, run by UAE-based Dana Gas, produces significant amounts of natural gas for both the Kurdistan Region and other areas. Because of its importance, any incident near the site raises alarm.

Although Sunday’s event was controlled, early confusion spread through the area. Some feared another drone attack, especially given the site’s troubled past. In recent years, Khor Mor gas field has faced multiple rocket and drone strikes, which damaged equipment and disrupted production.

In response to these past incidents, authorities increased protection around the gas field. Security teams now monitor the area more closely. They also maintain communication with local leaders to handle any possible threats.

Despite Sunday’s scare, operations at the gas field continued without interruption. Dana Gas did not report any damage or delays. Workers quickly returned to normal duties once the nature of the blast was confirmed.

Local residents expressed relief after hearing the true cause. Many praised the authorities for acting fast and sharing accurate information. Quick communication helped reduce fear and kept the situation under control.

The Kurdistan Region relies on gas from Khor Mor to support homes, factories, and electricity plants. Any disruption could affect daily life and energy output. That’s why safety at the site remains a top priority for officials.

In conclusion, the Khor Mor gas field remains safe and secure. Sunday’s explosion turned out to be a planned operation, not an attack. Authorities continue to protect this vital facility and reassure the public.
