Iraq–Kurdistan Leaders Reaffirm Salary Deal

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Duhok to review recent political and financial developments. Both leaders reaffirmed their salary agreement and underscored their commitment to ensuring regular payments for public employees. Moreover, they stressed that cooperation remains essential for stability between Erbil and Baghdad.

Barzani welcomed the meeting and emphasized that clear communication strengthens trust between both governments. He highlighted the importance of predictable financial arrangements because steady salaries support families and maintain public confidence. In addition, he noted that continued coordination helps resolve technical concerns quickly.

Al-Sudani also reaffirmed Baghdad’s pledge to pay the Kurdistan Region’s salaries without interruption. He explained that the federal government stands ready to finalize all remaining procedures. Furthermore, he stressed that national consensus remains strong despite political challenges across Iraq.

The two leaders discussed broader political issues as well. They reviewed progress toward forming a new government following Iraq’s recent elections. Al-Sudani stated that the process will face no major obstacles and that dialogue among political blocs remains constructive. Barzani agreed that a cooperative approach will strengthen institutions and support long-term stability.
