Iraq’s Kurdistan President Backed Stability During Iran-Israel Conflict

During the recent 12-day war between Iran and Israel, the Kurdistan Region took careful steps to support regional peace. A new report highlighted the strong role played by Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani. His actions during the conflict received praise for promoting calm and protecting the border.

Barzani quickly condemned Israeli airstrikes at the start of the war. He warned that more fighting would harm regional stability. His early statement clearly rejected the use of military force and stressed the risks of escalation. Barzani urged all parties to choose dialogue instead of violence.

The report also highlighted Barzani’s support for the Baghdad-Tehran security agreement. He worked to increase military coordination near the Kurdistan Region’s border with Iran. These steps aimed to stop any hostile activity from crossing into Iran from Kurdish territory in Iraq. This response helped lower tensions during a dangerous time.

At the same time, Barzani held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both leaders reportedly agreed on the need to reduce conflict and avoid further military clashes. They promised to keep working together to support peace and cooperation.

In the following days, Barzani welcomed the ceasefire announcement between Iran and Israel. He repeated his strong support for diplomacy and peaceful negotiations in the region. He called on all countries to focus on stability and avoid actions that might restart violence.

The report praised Barzani’s approach during what it called one of the most sensitive moments in Iran’s recent history. His quick actions and clear messages reflected his strong commitment to maintaining peace. It also showed his interest in building stronger ties between Iraq’s Kurdistan Region and Tehran.

Observers say Barzani’s leadership during the conflict gave Iraq a more neutral and constructive role. He avoided taking sides, while still acting to protect the region’s borders and prevent foreign interference. His balanced approach made room for dialogue, even as tension remained high.

Now, the Kurdistan Region continues to focus on preventing further conflict. Its leaders believe that regional peace depends on communication and shared goals. By choosing stability over confrontation, Barzani positioned the Kurdistan Region as a reliable partner in the Middle East.
