Erbil – Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton has issued a strong warning against any American military withdrawal from areas near the Kurdistan Region, particularly in Syria and western territories.
Speaking on regional stability, Bolton stressed that a reduced U.S. presence could encourage hostile groups to expand their influence. He believes that extremist factions are watching closely for signs of weakened American support. According to Bolton, even the perception of retreat could embolden those actors.
He also pointed to the strategic importance of maintaining cooperation with reliable allies in the region. Bolton emphasized that the Kurdistan Region plays a vital role in balancing regional power and fighting terrorism. A stable and secure border, he said, benefits not only the region but the broader international community.
Additionally, he noted that U.S. engagement supports diplomatic efforts and deters outside interference. Bolton urged U.S. policymakers to strengthen, not reduce, their military and political commitments to partners in the region.
His comments come amid growing discussions in Washington over troop levels and foreign engagement. Many regional observers echo Bolton’s concerns, warning that any withdrawal could destabilize hard-won gains.
