ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo has condemned a recent missile strike on Peshmerga forces, describing the attack as unprovoked and calling for immediate action from Baghdad.
In a statement, the Politburo strongly denounced the attack and described it as a direct threat to the Kurdistan Region’s security. It stressed that such actions violate Iraq’s sovereignty and undermine stability. Similar attacks in the past have also drawn strong reactions, with officials warning they threaten both regional security and national integrity.
The KDP Politburo urged the Iraqi federal government to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities. It called on Baghdad to take clear steps to protect the Kurdistan Region and prevent further attacks.
Furthermore, the party emphasized the need to hold those responsible accountable. It warned that failure to act could encourage more violations and increase tensions across the region.
At the same time, the Politburo called for unity among Kurdish political forces. It stressed that internal cohesion remains essential during a period of heightened regional instability.
In addition, the statement highlighted the importance of cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad. It noted that coordination between both sides can help strengthen security and prevent future incidents.
The KDP Politburo also underlined the role of the Peshmerga forces. It described them as a key pillar of security and a symbol of national defense for the Kurdistan Region.
