KRG Leaders to Meet on Oil, Salaries, and Peshmerga Reform

Erbil’s top officials will hold a crucial meeting this week to address major economic and security issues. The Council of Ministers will gather to discuss three key topics: oil exports, salary payments, and Peshmerga reforms.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani will lead the session, with Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also attending. The meeting will focus on decisions that could shape the region’s financial and defense future.

First, the ministers will finalize plans to pay salaries for June and July 2025. These payments affect thousands of public sector workers across the region. Officials aim to complete the necessary procedures to avoid further delays.

Next, the council will consider restarting oil exports. This move follows a joint decision between the Erbil government and federal authorities. If successful, the agreement could mark a new chapter in energy cooperation. Officials hope it will boost revenues and help stabilize the economy.

Finally, the ministers will review new proposals from the Ministry of Peshmerga. These suggestions include changes to pensions, salaries, and other entitlements for Peshmerga personnel. Improving conditions for the region’s defense forces remains a key government priority.

This meeting reflects growing efforts to tackle economic stress and strengthen regional stability. Officials believe these steps are essential for progress and future growth.
