Kurdish Film “The Sea of Hope” Selected for German Festival

Kurdish director Jibrayil Abubakr’s short film The Sea of Hope will compete at Germany’s Paradise International Film Festival, marking another proud achievement for Kurdish cinema. The film, which explores the emotional struggles of refugees searching for safety and belonging, was chosen from over 4,800 submissions representing 52 countries.

Abubakr expressed his excitement about the film’s selection, saying that it reflects the resilience and humanity of those forced to leave their homes in search of hope. He explained that his goal was to give voice to the pain and dreams of displaced people who continue to fight for dignity and survival.

Festival organizers praised The Sea of Hope for its powerful storytelling, authentic performances, and emotional depth. The film captures the daily challenges faced by refugees through intimate moments of fear, love, and determination.

Kurdish cinema has gained growing international recognition in recent years, with several Kurdish filmmakers showcasing their works at major global festivals. Abubakr’s participation in the German festival demonstrates the increasing visibility of Kurdish stories on the world stage.

The Paradise International Film Festival will be held later this month in Germany, bringing together filmmakers, critics, and audiences to celebrate creative voices from around the world.
