Renowned Kurdish musician Farid Ilhami recently captivated audiences in Paris with a stunning tanbur performance. The event, titled “A Journey to the Soul,” featuring Ilhami as a special guest. He performed traditional Kurdish and Yarsani melodies alongside Persian poetry by Rumi.
Ilhami explained that the concert aimed to promote spiritual understanding through music. He shared the stage with Iranian artists Hamed Zaheri and Shayan Karimi, blending Kurdish and Persian cultural elements. The performance highlighted ancient Yarsani texts, showcasing the tanbur’s deep spiritual roots.
As a seventh-generation tanbur player, Ilhami comes from a prestigious Yarsani lineage. He descends from Sultan Sahak, the founder of Yarsanism in Hawraman. Ilhami not only performs but also researches and preserves this ancient instrument. He established the “House of Tanbur” and produced documentaries on its history.
Fans worldwide praised the event for its cultural richness. Ilhami hopes such performances will keep Kurdish musical heritage alive for future generations.
