A Kurdistan delegation will visit Baghdad soon to discuss the payment of 12 bonus salaries for retirees. The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Finance announced that the team will deliver a full list of eligible retirees to Baghdad during the visit.
The move comes after the alignment of Kurdistan’s retirement system with Iraq’s earlier this year. Since then, over 27,000 employees have officially retired. Their administrative procedures are now complete, and most have started receiving regular pensions. This month, an additional 2,000 files will be finalized. Among the 29,000 total retirees, those with 25 years of service qualify for a 12-month end-of-service bonus, known as the “honor payment.”
The Kurdistan pension authority confirmed that it has already submitted the list of retirees eligible for the 12-month payment, covering January to September, to Iraq’s Ministry of Finance. However, the Iraqi government has not yet released the funds.
Officials from the Kurdistan Pension Directorate said a delegation from the ministry will soon visit Baghdad. They plan to meet with Iraq’s Ministry of Finance and national pension department to push for approval and payment of the pending 12-month bonuses.
The visit aims to secure Baghdad’s consent and ensure that retired public employees in Kurdistan receive their long-awaited entitlements without further delay.
