Kurdistan Discusses Drone Attacks and Energy Deals with US Officials

In Washington, Safeen Dizayee, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Foreign Relations Department, engaged in vital discussions with top US officials. These meetings focused on strengthening political cooperation and tackling urgent threats to Kurdistan’s governance. Among the main topics were drone attacks on Kurdistan oil fields, energy agreements, and financial tensions between Erbil and Baghdad.

Dizayee confirmed that his team revisited an energy agreement signed just two months earlier. He stressed the importance of sustained dialogue with American ministries and members of Congress. The goal is to secure both political support and practical coordination for Kurdistan’s stability.

During a panel held in Washington, Dizayee delivered a strong warning. He stated that drone attacks on Kurdistan oil fields have disrupted oil production. These targeted strikes have already damaged four sites, reducing revenue and increasing pressure on Kurdistan’s economy.

He urged Baghdad to take immediate steps. According to Dizayee, the federal government should form a joint committee to address the attacks. So far, no clear plan has come from Baghdad, leaving Kurdistan’s vital infrastructure exposed.

The meetings also addressed broader political concerns. These included the strained relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, delayed salary payments, and the region’s disputed share of the national budget. Kurdish leaders argue that political instability in Baghdad directly affects their ability to govern and protect key assets.

Despite these challenges, Dizayee expressed cautious optimism. He emphasized the importance of political alliances with Washington. According to him, the United States continues to see the Kurdistan Region as a reliable political partner and a crucial force for regional stability.

Kurdish officials are now pushing for faster cooperation. They seek immediate action to defend oil fields and resolve internal disputes with Baghdad. If ignored, drone attacks on Kurdistan oil fields could worsen, creating deeper political and economic instability.

Dizayee closed by reaffirming the KRG’s commitment to responsible governance. He called for joint efforts to protect national interests and ensure the Kurdistan Region’s political rights within Iraq. He also promised continued coordination with the US on shared political goals.

As tensions grow, strong communication between Erbil, Baghdad, and Washington becomes even more essential. This political effort is critical to counter threats like drone attacks on Kurdistan oil fields and to preserve the region’s political standing.
