Erbil — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Electricity announced that almost 4.5 million citizens now enjoy round-the-clock electricity under its ambitious Runaki program. This major achievement reflects the government’s broader goal to modernize the power sector, improve living standards, and protect the environment.
The Runaki initiative provides residents with uninterrupted electricity while significantly reducing reliance on private generators. Since its launch, the program has replaced more than 3,200 generators across the Kurdistan Region. As a result, the government has curbed annual carbon emissions by roughly 600,000 tons and created cleaner, quieter neighborhoods.
Moreover, the Ministry revealed that households have seen their monthly electricity expenses drop by up to 80%. This cost reduction has given families financial relief and improved their overall quality of life. The program also enhances grid efficiency and supports the government’s vision for a self-sufficient, eco-friendly energy system.
Officials emphasized that the success of Runaki represents a key milestone in the KRG’s reform agenda. They pledged to expand the project to reach more remote areas and strengthen the region’s power infrastructure.
By combining technological innovation, sustainability, and fiscal responsibility, the Kurdistan Regional Government continues to deliver practical solutions that directly benefit its citizens and promote long-term economic stability.
