Kurdistan Expands Energy Network with New Gas Pipeline

Kurdistan has launched a major gas pipeline connecting Erbil and Duhok, marking a new phase in the region’s energy development. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani personally opened the project and highlighted its importance in boosting electricity generation across Kurdistan.

The $591 million project delivers natural gas to a new 1,000-megawatt power station in Duhok. It strengthens local power capacity and supports the government’s plan to provide 24-hour electricity to every household. Barzani said this initiative reflects the government’s determination to improve public services and reduce reliance on external energy sources.

In addition, the new pipeline will create hundreds of job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in surrounding areas. The project also encourages investors to participate in Kurdistan’s expanding energy market. Barzani explained that stronger infrastructure will help the region achieve greater stability and attract long-term development projects.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister underlined the environmental benefits of natural gas, describing it as a cleaner and more efficient source of energy. He reaffirmed his government’s goal to move toward greener and more sustainable production methods.

He also called for continued collaboration between local experts and international companies to build similar projects throughout the region. With this pipeline, Kurdistan moves closer to becoming a regional energy leader and a model of modern resource management.
