Kurdistan, Germany Strengthen Relations Through Cooperation

Kurdistan is expanding cooperation with Germany to enhance political, economic, and security ties. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met Germany’s new Ambassador to Iraq, Daniel Krebber, in Erbil to discuss ways to deepen Kurdistan–Germany relations.

Barzani congratulated Krebber on his new post and reaffirmed full support for his mission. He emphasized the Kurdistan Regional Government’s goal of strengthening diplomatic and economic partnerships. Ambassador Krebber praised the Region’s progress and confirmed Germany’s long-term commitment to Kurdistan–Germany relations.

Both sides discussed the upcoming Iraqi elections, Germany’s continued support for the Peshmerga, and wider regional developments. They agreed that stronger coordination can ensure stability and sustainable growth.

Germany has maintained a consulate in Erbil since 2012, while Kurdistan has had representation in Berlin since 1992. Their cooperation expanded during the fight against ISIS, when Germany provided weapons, training, and logistics to the Peshmerga. These efforts highlighted Germany’s dedication to Kurdistan–Germany relations and regional peace.

Both governments continue to prioritize defense, governance, and reconstruction. Their growing partnership reflects shared goals for security and progress.
