Former Peshmerga official Jabar Yawar strongly criticized Baghdad after the latest missile strike on the Khor Mor gas field. He labeled the attack a “terrorist act” and said the perpetrators targeted a major civilian energy source. Moreover, he argued that the strike aimed to disrupt daily life across the Kurdistan Region by hitting one of its most critical facilities.
Yawar said the missile came from a federal-controlled area, and he insisted that Baghdad holds full responsibility for stopping such assaults. He added that the federal government must take firm action against the groups that operate in those zones. In addition, he urged Baghdad to improve security coordination and prevent further attacks that threaten electricity supplies and public stability.
Kurdish officials intensified efforts at the site after the explosion. They launched technical assessments, increased security patrols, and began detailed investigations. Furthermore, they emphasized that Khor Mor remains essential to the region’s energy system, and any disruption affects homes, hospitals, and businesses.
Yawar also called for stronger cooperation between Kurdistan and international partners. He said enhanced defense support will help protect the region’s energy infrastructure from future threats. He urged allies to recognize the seriousness of repeated attacks and assist in building reliable counter-drone and missile defenses.
Finally, he warned that continued inaction enables more violence and deepens instability. He stressed that Kurdistan needs immediate security guarantees to safeguard its people and its energy lifelines.
