Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the new Sarhaldan Park in Duhok, urging citizens to protect Kurdistan’s environment. The park offers modern recreational, cultural, and sports facilities for families, children, and visitors.
“This park represents our commitment to public spaces and environmental preservation,” Barzani said. “Kurdistan’s environment must remain clean and beautiful for everyone.” He emphasized that the park sits on a former industrial site, now transformed into a green oasis.
Barzani praised Duhok’s citizens, especially families of Peshmerga martyrs, for their resilience. “They deserve every service possible, and this park is a gift to them,” he added. The Prime Minister also stressed collective responsibility, encouraging tourists and locals to maintain the park and surrounding areas.
He instructed local authorities to enforce penalties against littering and environmental damage. “Our homeland is sacred, and protecting Kurdistan’s environment is a duty for all,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Barzani inaugurated the Shekhan–Lalish dual carriageway, improving access to one of the holiest Yezidi sites. The project was completed ahead of schedule by North Light Company, enhancing travel for pilgrims, residents, and visitors.
Duhok Governor Ali Tatar welcomed the projects, highlighting KRG’s development achievements. “Despite economic challenges, the government has completed hundreds of roads, parks, and infrastructure projects across Kurdistan,” he said. KRG officials revealed that over 1,300 development projects were executed in the past five years, with thousands of kilometers of roads and urban streets improved.
Barzani praised the private sector’s role in sustaining development and reiterated the importance of inclusivity. “The original Kurds are the Yezidis, and they remain an inseparable part of Kurdistan,” he said, linking the new road to the liberation of Sinjar from ISIS.
He also urged Baghdad to honor the 2020 Sinjar Agreement, facilitating the safe return of displaced Yezidis. Barzani expressed cautious optimism regarding ongoing budget and oil export negotiations with the federal government.
The inauguration of Sarhaldan Park and infrastructure projects demonstrates the KRG’s commitment to sustainable development, tourism growth, and environmental protection.
