President Masoud Barzani met a high-level delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) at Pirmam. The meeting focused on promoting Kurdish unity, social peace, and cooperation with all communities in Syria. Barzani reaffirmed his support for national reconciliation and peaceful coexistence across the region.
The KNCS delegation included leaders and secretaries-general of Syrian Kurdish parties. Their visit highlighted ongoing efforts to build stronger ties between Kurdish movements in the Kurdistan Region and Syria. Both sides discussed political developments, emphasizing the need for Kurdish cooperation to secure rights and stability within a democratic and decentralized Syria.
Barzani stressed that unity among Kurdish groups is essential for protecting Kurdish rights and ensuring peace. He called for stronger dialogue among parties and encouraged collaboration with Syria’s Arab, Assyrian, and other ethnic communities. He said peace and coexistence must guide all political efforts.
KNCS leaders echoed Barzani’s message. Mohammad Ismail, head of the council, praised Barzani as a unifying national symbol for Kurds across all regions. He said Barzani’s leadership inspires confidence and encourages political moderation. Ismail emphasized that the Kurdish movement seeks partnership, not division, within Syria.
Faisal Youssef, KNCS spokesperson, stated that the Kurds aim for constitutional recognition and fair representation. He explained that decentralization allows Kurds to manage their affairs while contributing to rebuilding Syria as equal partners. Both leaders agreed that dialogue remains the only path to peace.
Barzani warned that lasting peace in Syria depends on addressing the Kurdish issue. He urged Damascus to engage sincerely with Kurdish representatives and implement agreements that ensure equality. He also highlighted that ignoring Kurdish rights could threaten Syria’s stability.
The meeting reaffirmed Barzani’s long-term commitment to peace and regional stability. His ongoing dialogue with Kurdish and Arab leaders aims to prevent conflict and strengthen cooperation. Barzani’s approach continues to emphasize unity, coexistence, and mutual respect among Syria’s diverse groups.
