Kurdistan Ministry of Health Resolves Medicine Shortage in Sulaymaniyah Hospitals

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Health has fully resolved the shortage of essential medicines in government hospitals across Sulaymaniyah, officials confirmed. The ministry announced that funds allocated for purchasing medicines have now been spent, ensuring that hospitals can meet patient needs.

The issue came to light after a report, highlighting critical shortages of medicines and medical supplies in Sulaymaniyah and surrounding areas. Following the report, the KRG Minister of Healthconfirmed that the problem would be addressed within 48 hours.

Dr. Saman Barzanji, Minister of Health for the Kurdistan Region, told that: “Last week, the Ministers of Finance and Economy approved the release of funds to resolve the shortage of medicines in Sulaymaniyah hospitals.”

The ministry allocated 27 billion Iraqi dinars for medicine purchases. Funds are being disbursed via bank checks, ensuring each shipment of medicines and medical supplies is properly managed and delivered on time.

Dr. Maaf Abdulla, Director of the Ministry of Health Office, added: “Today, the medicine funds for Sulaymaniyah have been spent, and the shortage has been fully resolved. Hospitals can now provide all necessary treatments without interruption.”

The KRG Ministry of Health emphasized that the timely allocation and spending of funds reflect the government’s commitment to public health and patient care. Officials also noted that the ministry will continue monitoring hospitals to prevent future shortages and ensure that medical facilities remain well-stocked.

This resolution comes as part of a broader effort by the KRG to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve the availability of medicines, and support medical staff in delivering quality care to residents across the Kurdistan Region.
