Kurdistan Peshmerga Stand Firm Despite Salary Crisis Pressure

Peshmerga commanders across Kurdistan have strongly affirmed their commitment to defend the region, even during this ongoing salary crisis. The leaders emphasized that the Peshmerga defense commitment remains unshaken by political or financial challenges.

During recent statements from the Kirkuk, Makhmour, and Gwer fronts, senior officers stressed their loyalty to Kurdistan’s security. They pointed out that Baghdad’s political pressure will not weaken the Peshmerga or undermine their responsibilities.

Brigadier Fatih Gawradeyi, Deputy Commander of the Kirkuk Front, addressed public concern regarding morale. He insisted that Peshmerga forces continue to protect Kurdistan with full strength and national pride. He also thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for working hard to secure salaries and financial rights. However, he criticized Baghdad for using money as a tool to pressure the region.

According to Gawradeyi, the Peshmerga defense commitment traces back to historical sacrifices. He explained that even in times without salaries or weapons, Kurdish fighters protected their land. He stressed that the Peshmerga ideology has stayed the same, from past mountain wars to today’s urban defense.

The message was further echoed by Brigadier General Srud Salih, Head of Operations for the Makhmour and Gwer front. He confirmed that security operations remain active, especially in areas vulnerable to ISIS activity. Salih described the region as calm and normal despite the tension with Baghdad.

Salih added that recent cooperation between the Peshmerga and Iraqi Army continues in shared operational zones. He cited a joint operation against ISIS movements as an example of this coordination. Even though political disputes persist, the Peshmerga prioritize frontline security.

Furthermore, Salih recalled earlier struggles when the Peshmerga fought against ISIS under financial pressure. He reminded citizens that the Iraqi government previously cut off salaries and ammunition for months. Nevertheless, the Peshmerga defense commitment remained firm during that crisis, proving that dedication comes before payment.

Both commanders made it clear that the Peshmerga forces extend across all Kurdish regions. They continue performing their duties while defending Kurdistan against every threat. These unified messages not only aim to reassure the Kurdish population but also challenge Baghdad’s current policies.

Internally, the leadership aims to boost morale and emphasize the historic role of the Peshmerga. Externally, the message warns Baghdad that withholding funds cannot weaken Kurdistan’s military defense.

Additionally, the commanders revealed the complex balance between political disagreement and military cooperation. While financial and legal conflicts with Baghdad continue, both sides work together to stop terrorist threats.
