Erbil — Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visited the Dwin area in Erbil province to review the progress of the Dwin Dam and the restoration of the historic Dwin Citadel. The visit underscored the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to developing infrastructure and preserving cultural heritage.
During the visit, PM Barzani stressed that the Dwin Dam project will play a vital role in improving agriculture and ensuring water sustainability for surrounding communities. He explained that the dam, once completed, will hold up to 100 million cubic meters of water and will provide a steady resource for irrigation, drinking water, and regional development.
Barzani also toured the nearby Dwin Citadel, one of the oldest historical sites in the region. He emphasized the importance of preserving such landmarks as part of Kurdistan’s identity and as a way to attract cultural tourism. “Our history is our strength,” he said. “We must protect it while continuing to build a sustainable and prosperous future.”
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the KRG’s plan to balance economic progress with environmental and historical preservation. He noted that projects like the Dwin Dam and Citadel reflect the government’s strategy to link development with heritage, promoting both modern growth and cultural pride.
