Kurdistan: President Barzani Visits Zakho Book Fair Featuring 20,000 Titles

President Masoud Barzani toured the Zakho International Book Fair on Sunday, and he highlighted the event’s cultural significance for the Kurdistan Region. The fair features more than 20,000 books from 50 publishers representing 10 countries. Barzani praised the organizers for creating a platform that encourages reading, scholarship, and cross-border literary exchange.

During his visit, Barzani explored different sections of the fair, meeting authors, publishers, and young readers. He emphasized the importance of promoting literacy and fostering cultural dialogue among diverse communities. Moreover, he encouraged students and families to engage with literature and expand their knowledge.

Organizers explained that the fair will run for six days, welcoming visitors daily from morning until evening. They said the event includes panels, book signings, and discussions aimed at strengthening literary culture across the region. Additionally, they highlighted workshops designed to inspire young writers and encourage creative expression.

Barzani praised publishers for showcasing both classic and contemporary works, noting that the fair strengthens ties between Kurdish literature and global publishing networks. He also stressed that such events boost cultural awareness, preserve heritage, and support intellectual growth in Kurdistan.

The president concluded his tour by encouraging continued investment in cultural and educational initiatives. He said events like the Zakho book fair demonstrate the Region’s commitment to knowledge, creativity, and the arts. He called on communities to embrace literature as a cornerstone of cultural identity and regional unity.
