Kurdistan Region Launches Winter Tourism and Festivals

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced a major winter tourism campaign across the region. New winter festivals will take place in Soran, Sulaimani, and Duhok this season. Officials highlighted the growing appeal of the region’s winter attractions. They aim to draw both local and international tourists.

Over the past five years, the KRG invested $7.5 billion in tourism infrastructure. This funding has improved hotels, ski resorts, and cultural sites. As a result, winter visitors now make up 15% of total tourists. Tourism authorities report that this figure continues to rise steadily each year. Festival programs include cultural performances, traditional music, and sports events.

Additionally, authorities plan culinary fairs and local craft exhibitions. They hope these events will highlight Kurdistan’s heritage and natural beauty. Furthermore, authorities are promoting winter activities such as skiing and hiking. The tourism board emphasized collaboration with private businesses to enhance services. They also announced marketing campaigns targeting regional and international travelers.

Officials noted that tourism plays a crucial role in boosting the local economy. They stressed that sustained investment can transform Kurdistan into a year-round destination. Ultimately, the winter tourism push reflects Kurdistan’s ambition to attract diverse visitors. Officials expressed optimism about continued growth and economic benefits. They plan to expand festivals and tourist programs in the coming years.
