Kurdistan Region PM Meets Indonesia’s New Ambassador, Pledges Stronger Ties

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed Didik Eko Pujianto, Indonesia’s newly appointed ambassador to Iraq, in Erbil to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, and labor exchange.

Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Ambassador Pujianto on his appointment and expressed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s full support for his mission in deepening ties between Erbil and Jakarta. He emphasized the importance of enhancing economic and diplomatic relations to benefit both sides.

Ambassador Pujianto praised the Kurdistan Region’s progress, stability, and development, highlighting its growing role as a safe and attractive destination for foreign investment. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expressed readiness to promote business partnerships in the region. The ambassador also emphasized exploring new areas of investment in trade, education, and labor cooperation.

The officials discussed the welfare of Indonesian nationals living and working in the Kurdistan Region. Prime Minister Barzani assured that the KRG will continue to facilitate the work of foreign missions and institutions, providing a safe and supportive environment for international citizens and businesses.

In recent years, Indonesia and the Kurdistan Region have gradually increased collaboration, particularly in trade, education, and labor exchange. Indonesia, as the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, has shown growing interest in northern Iraq due to its relative stability and investment opportunities compared to other areas of the country.

This meeting underscores Erbil’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to diversify international partnerships and attract foreign investment. By engaging with nations like Indonesia, the Kurdistan Region aims to position itself as a stable gateway for global trade, investment, and cultural exchange within Iraq and the broader Middle East.
