Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani Meets UN Secretary-General’s Representative

ERBIL – November 10, 2025, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mohammed al-Hassan, the Representative of the UN Secretary-General, to discuss Iraq’s overall situation, the upcoming parliamentary elections, and relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of holding transparent and fair elections across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. They expressed hope that the elections and their outcomes would mark a positive step toward strengthening democracy and stability.

President Barzani and al-Hassan also agreed that resolving outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad requires dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect. They underlined that political cooperation is essential to maintain Iraq’s peace and stability.

The discussion further covered the latest regional developments and their potential impact on Iraq’s internal situation. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to continued coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the United Nations to support good governance, reform, and sustainable peace.
