ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Commercial and tourist travel between the Kurdistan Region and Iran has resumed through key border crossings after a recent disruption.
Officials confirmed that the crossings at Haji Omeran and Sayranban are once again operating for both trade and passenger movement. The reopening restores an important transport route linking the Kurdistan Region with neighboring Iran.
The crossings had experienced disruptions in recent days due to regional security tensions and operational issues. During the suspension, commercial activity and tourist travel were restricted, with only returning travelers allowed to cross in some cases.
With operations now restored, trucks carrying goods and travelers are again moving through the crossings as usual. Authorities say the reopening will help normalize trade flows and travel between the two sides.
Haji Omeran is one of the most important land gateways between the Kurdistan Region and Iran. It plays a major role in facilitating tourism, trade, and economic exchange between the two neighboring areas.
The Sayranban crossing in the Garmiyan area also serves as a key commercial route connecting markets in the Kurdistan Region with Iranian border provinces.
Officials say the reopening will help traders resume normal business operations. Many merchants rely on these routes to import and export goods, including food products, construction materials, and consumer items.
Authorities added that border staff on both sides are coordinating to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and travelers. Security measures remain in place to maintain safety and prevent further disruptions.
The restoration of commercial and tourist travel is expected to ease economic pressure on border communities and strengthen economic ties between the Kurdistan Region and Iran.
