Kurdistan Renews Push for Salary Crisis Resolution with Baghdad

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has taken a firm step to address the ongoing salary crisis resolution in the Region. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani chaired a special meeting to examine recent negotiations with Baghdad over unpaid public sector salaries and the halt in oil exports.

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and other senior officials joined the meeting. Together, they emphasized the urgent need for cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad. They also reaffirmed that public employees’ salaries represent a legal and constitutional right.

The KRG has continued to prioritize the salary crisis resolution despite prolonged delays from the federal government. Officials insisted that all dialogue with Baghdad must proceed through legal and constitutional channels. They further stated that the Region has already fulfilled all of its obligations under existing agreements.

Participants noted that the federal government’s political decisions have worsened the financial strain on public employees. Despite this, the KRG plans to continue pushing forward on both oil negotiations and budget entitlements.

The meeting also reviewed efforts to restart oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. The KRG considers oil exports vital to funding essential services and meeting salary demands. Officials discussed next steps to overcome political obstacles that prevent oil flow and salary payments.

Additionally, they confirmed that the current cabinet has worked tirelessly since taking office to stabilize salaries. The leadership plans to introduce more practical mechanisms to ensure that civil servants receive wages on time. They also reaffirmed their commitment to work transparently and legally to reach a fair outcome.

The KRG warned that prolonged delays in salary payments threaten the region’s social and economic stability. Therefore, solving the salary crisis resolution remains one of the top government priorities. Officials promised to continue defending the people’s rights and finding long-term financial justice.

As the dialogue continues, the KRG remains hopeful. They expect Baghdad to respond with a workable agreement soon. In the meantime, the government will maintain its efforts and explore all available solutions to protect employees’ livelihoods.
