Kurdistan to Turn Nizarke Castle into Memorial Museum for Anfal Victims

President Masoud Barzani announced that Nizarke Castle will become a memorial museum dedicated to the victims of the Anfal campaign. During his visit, he reviewed the progress of the restoration work and emphasized the importance of preserving the site as a symbol of Kurdish resilience.

The President received detailed updates on the ongoing restoration process and the measures being taken to transform the castle into a lasting historical institution. He stated that the museum will honor the memory of the thousands who suffered during the Anfal genocide and educate future generations about the tragedy.

Moreover, Barzani stressed that safeguarding Kurdish history remains a national duty. He explained that the Nizarke project will serve both as a cultural landmark and a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and dignity.

In addition, the initiative supports the Kurdistan Regional Government’s broader effort to promote cultural heritage and historical awareness. Local officials and historians welcomed the decision, describing it as a meaningful step toward national remembrance and justice.
